Dr. Rebekah Hedges
Dr. Rebekah Hedges is an experienced Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of expertise in working with children, adolescents, and adults across all ages. She has specialised training in the assessment, diagnosis, and psychological treatment of mental health conditions, behavioural and emotional disorders, developmental delays, and learning disabilities. Dr Hedges integrates evidence-based approaches with clinical expertise to address complex psychological challenges effectively and compassionately.
In 2014, Dr Hedges served as a Court Child Expert for the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, where she played a pivotal role in assisting families navigating high-conflict separations. Her work combined child-centred therapeutic methods with forensic techniques, enabling her to support families in addressing sensitive issues with professionalism, empathy and a focus on the well-being of children. She continues this vital work as a Regulation 7 Family Consultant and Single Expert Witness, bringing deep insight and integrity to complex family dynamics.
Dr Hedges began her career as a school psychologist, dedicating a decade to supporting children and families facing challenges such as relationship and family conflict, mental health concerns, emotional and behavioural dysregulation, developmental delays, and learning difficulties. Her career has since spanned diverse roles in Community Health, the Child and Family Health Team, and the Centre for Psychotherapy, where she has provided psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for clients across all stages of life.
In 2013, Dr Hedges founded a successful multidisciplinary private practice, where she remains a Principal Psychologist at Nelson Bay Allied Health. This practice embodies her commitment to delivering comprehensive, high-quality care to individuals and families in her community.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Hedges is a passionate educator. As a casual academic at the University of Newcastle, she teaches postgraduate students about the intersection of Clinical Psychology and Family Law. Through her teaching, she shares her extensive knowledge and experience, inspiring the next generation of clinicians.
